This two-hour workshop will cover diagnosis, treatment, recovery and how to keep moving through the Cancer journey.
Cancer is one of the most prevalent health conditions among adults, and its impact on individuals’ physical and emotional well-being can be profound. It seems everyone is touched by cancer in some way. As a young breast cancer survivor and someone who is passionate about fitness, I wrote this course in an attempt to make fitness professionals feel comfortable when working with someone who has had or who is going through cancer.
Despite the clear evidence supporting the role of exercise in improving quality of life and health outcomes during and after cancer treatment, it remains poorly integrated into cancer care. This course is designed to bridge that gap, providing fitness professionals with the knowledge needed to support clients who are navigating cancer treatment, recovering from surgery, moving forward after diagnosis, or who are living with cancer.
In this course, you will explore:
- What is cancer? A basic understanding of this complex disease.
- The prevalence of cancer. A snapshot of how common cancer is and who is affected.
- The benefits of exercise. From enhancing mental health to improving quality of life, you will learn why exercise is important before, during, and after cancer treatment.
- The role of fitness professionals. Why your knowledge is important in guiding cancer patients’ movement plan.
- Exercise recommendations. Evidence-based guidelines to ensure safe and effective exercise suggestions for cancer patients.
- Real-world case stories. Practical examples to show how exercise can impact lives during the cancer journey.
By the end of this course, you will understand some of the unique needs of cancer patients, the importance of exercise in cancer care, and how to confidently incorporate this knowledge into your work as a fitness professional. Whether you are already working with clients affected by cancer or preparing to do so, this course will empower you to make a meaningful impact in their recovery and during life after cancer.
