If you want to be a certified Fitness leader in Canada and recognized in many other countries around the world you will need to be recognized by the FLC - Fitness Leadership Canada (formerly the National Fitness Leadership Association of Canada -NFLA). All provinces and territories are affiliated with the FLC including BCRPA (British Columbia), AFLCA (Alberta), SPRA (Saskatchewan), MFC (Manitoba), OFC (Ontario), NSFA (Nova Scotia) and FNB (New Brunswick).

You have come to the right place for getting a Canada-wide certification. We have been certifying Personal Trainers and Fitness Instructors for 40 years! All of our courses are recognized across Canada so we can easily help you with the steps to get registered as an elite fitness professional.

Body Blueprint is looking forward to helping you with all of the steps to become a Personal Trainer. It can all be done online or in class here in Victoria (or through private courses at your request).

Note that if you plan to take all 3 of our courses (Fitness Theory, Weight Training, and Personal Training) online, we have a package option which saves you over $100 (note this package price does not include exams or registration fees).

Step 1: Fitness Theory Course (in class in Victoria or online from anywhere)

In Class

This hands on class is engaging, fun and will have you learning the material presented in no time.

The In Class Fitness Theory course runs over 3 days: Friday evening 5:30 to 9:30pm, Saturday and Sunday 8:30am to 4:30pm. Please see the dates this class will be running in Victoria. Each student receives a full-colour hard copy of the Fitness Theory and Exercise Physiology manual and workbook as well as access to our online lectures and tutorials.

Online:

With the online course, you can begin right away. The Body Blueprint Fitness Theory & Exercise Physiology course includes videos, tutorials and the Theory manual that is easy to read, in full colour and gives you all the information you need to successfully pass the Fitness Theory exam. There are a few assignments that you can easily do online and we return it to you with thorough feedback so you can easily learn the material presented and prepare for the exam and future courses.

Our team of tutor/markers are here to help you every step of the way by phone, email or live chat when you need it. Unlike other companies, real people mark your work and are happy to help you on your fitness journey.

Step 2: Fitness Theory Exam

When you are ready, you may take a Fitness Theory exam through the registering body of your choice. Our course prepares you for exams with the B.C. Recreation and Parks Association (BCRPA), the Manitoba Fitness Council (MFC), Alberta Fitness Leadership Certification Association (AFLCA), the Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association (SPRA) and the Nova Scotia Fitness Association (NSFA). Body Blueprint Fitness Education (BBFE) also offers a registration process for Personal Trainers interested in working privately.

This exam is a prerequisite for your specialty module course (Weight, Group, Aqua, etc).

Step 3: Register with a Registering Body

If you wish to get registered with a registering body, simply pay the provinces registration fee prior to taking your next course.

If you want to switch organizations later on, other registering organizations of Fitness Leadership Canada (FLC), may allow you to challenge their exams/evaluations once you've taken Body Blueprint's courses.

First Aid and CPR

Your First Aid and CPR must be complete and up-to-date before you can be fully registered.

For First Aid and CPR, we recommend Alert First Aid if you are on Vancouver Island or the lower mainland (Vancouver). Registered Fitness Leaders and registration candidates are required to have current CPR and First Aid certifications at all times. These certifications must come from the following organizations or from companies that are authorized by them to provide these certifications: Red Cross, St. John’s Ambulance, Canadian Ski Patrol, the Lifesaving Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Fitness Leaders are required to have a minimum of CPR-A certification and either Emergency First Aid or Standard First Aid certification.
