We offer in-class Group Fitness courses regularly in Victoria, BC. The in class course is a fast, efficient, fun, and educational way to receive your Group Fitness certification. It is a very practical course, so be prepared to get moving!
Being a Group Fitness Instructor is a fun way to get your workout at the same time as getting paid for it! It can be anything from a part-time hobby and source of supplementary income to a full career, depending on how much time you'd like to put into it.
The Body Blueprint Group Fitness Instructor course teaches you all the elements of being a great instructor. We cover choreography, use of music, cueing, safety in exercise design, strength and flexibility, boot camp and outdoor fitness. The focus is on YOU and the type of class you want to teach. If you want to teach any type of group exercise classes this course will teach you how! Join thousands of other fitness professionals who have taken the Body Blueprint courses.
Group Fitness may include classic aerobics, boot camp, group strength training, and more, and is often required in order to specialize in Spin, Zumba, and other group fitness specialty classes.
Note that if you wish to be a Personal Trainer and train small groups of 4 or more, you must also have your Group Fitness certification.
The In Class Group Fitness course usually runs over 2 days only, on a Saturday and Sunday from 8:30am to 4pm, at a central location in Victoria, BC. If the dates don't work for you, we have private options as well. This course is also always available online.
Within the course, we will review Anatomy and Physiology and what it is to be a fitness leader. We will dive into lesson planning, use of music, warm up and cardio choreography, cueing, boot camp, strength and endurance, stretching, and safety. You will be provided with a Group Fitness manual.
After the weekend, you will be asked to submit two observation reports (which means you will need to visit two Group Fitness classes and send us your evaluation of them - instructors remain anonymous) and write a lesson plan. Once we've reviewed these, we will send you your Group Fitness certificate (provided you have the prerequisites you need).
Once you have your Group Fitness certificate from Body Blueprint, if you wish to gain BCRPA certification, you are required to teach an 8 hour practicum. To do this, it's important to get to know Group Fitness Instructors now, you can find mentors who will allow you to teach parts of their classes with them to gradually work up to your 8 hours. Once you've finished this, you can complete your Instructor Competency Evaluation (ICE), which we can evaluate for you.
If you wish to become an Older Adult Instructor, you can take the Older Adult course once your Group Fitness ICE has been approved by BCRPA.
